ARE YOU MARRIED OR IN A CIVIL PARTNERSHIP?
• You could make an estimated lifetime saving of £15,000
• Transfer £1,250 of your personal allowance to your spouse.
• Marriage allowance allows an individual to transfer 10% of their personal allowance to their spouse or civil partner. 20% of this allowance is then given as a reduction in the recipient’s tax bill.
• You could be eligible to apply for a tax rebate for the last 4 years!
What is Marriage Tax Allowance?
The UK marriage tax allowance lets couples transfer a percentage of their personal allowance between them. Your personal allowance is income that you can earn tax-free each year. A recent survey states that around 4 million married or civil partner couples are missing out on the tax break which could total over £1 billion.
AM I ELIGIBLE?
• You’re married or in a civil partnership.
• You do not pay Income Tax or your income is below your Personal Allowance (usually £12,500).
• Your partner pays Income Tax at the basic rate, which usually means their income is between £12,501 and £50,000 before they receive Marriage Allowance.
HOW MUCH IS MARRIAGE ALLOWANCE WORTH?
The marriage tax allowance can reduce your tax bill by up to £250 per financial year. Meaning you could be entitled to £1000 from HMRC.
CAN I GET A BACKDATED CHEQUE?
Yes, if you are eligible, you can backdate your marriage allowance claim by up to 4 years. If a partner has passed away during this time period, you can still make a claim.

DO YOU HAVE AN EXAMPLE?
An example of this would be, one of the couples needs to be a UK taxpayer, earning less than £12,500 in a financial year. The other partner must be a taxpayer on the basic rate tax of 20%, this means you would have to be earning between £12,501 and £43,430, or for couples living in Scotland £43,430, and both would have to have been born on or after April 6th 1935. If you are on a higher rate of tax, you will not be eligible for the marriage allowance tax rebate.
DO I HAVE TO GIVE OUT MY BANK DETAILS?
We will not ask you for your bank details until we have your payment from HMRC. The reason we then ask you for them is to bank transfer your payment. If you still do not want to give us your bank details we can send you a cheque.
